Hong Kong, 26 November 2024Invest Hong Kong (InvestHK) has announced the opening of a new office in Cairo, Egypt, marking a strategic move to enhance its efforts in attracting companies from the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region to establish or expand their businesses in Hong Kong. The announcement was made during the seventh HK International Egyptian Folklore and Oriental Dance Festival, supported by the Consulate General of Egypt in Hong Kong. Speaking at the event, the Director-General of Investment Promotion at InvestHK, Ms. Alpha Lau, emphasized the significance of this initiative.

“On this delightful occasion, I am happy to announce that InvestHK has opened a new Cairo office to foster closer economic ties between Hong Kong and Egypt,” Ms. Lau said. “We aim to support corporates in Egypt and the MENA region in establishing their businesses in Hong Kong and to further strengthen business and economic ties. The opening of our first office in Cairo is a very significant step toward this goal. Corporates from Egypt and the MENA region can make use of Hong Kong as a perfect gateway to Asia and pave the way for new horizons.”

The Principal Consultant of the Cairo office at InvestHK, Mr. Sherif El Bidewy, expressed enthusiasm for the new role. “We are honored to be selected as the consultant for InvestHK in the region to attract local companies to set up or expand in Hong Kong. Hong Kong remains one of the most attractive business hubs in Asia and the world due to its advanced infrastructure and enabling business environment. We will do our best to assist companies from Egypt and the MENA region in leveraging these opportunities.”

Mr. El Bidewy also highlighted recent efforts to strengthen regional ties, referencing a successful visit by the Head of Business and Professional Services at InvestHK, Mr. Herman Tse, to Cairo and South Africa last month. During the visit, Mr. Tse held meetings with senior government officials and participated in roundtables and events to promote Hong Kong as a premier destination for business and investment.

The establishment of the Cairo office aligns with Hong Kong’s 2024-25 Budget, which outlined plans to bolster economic and trade relations with the Middle East. This initiative reinforces Hong Kong’s commitment to serving as a gateway for MENA businesses looking to access Asian markets.
